Delegation from IUG Concludes International Exchange Period at DU_Turkey

As part of the international Credit Mobility Projects funded by Erasmus Plus program, Prof. Bassam Abu Thaher, Professor of Organic Chemistry at the faculty of science, and Dr. Khaled Awad, Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Optics at the faculty of Health Science at the Islamic University of Gaza, successfully completed a week-long international mobility at Dicle University in Turkey. They were warmly received by the Erasmus Plus team at Dicle University, represented by Dr. Farouk Gökçe, Head of the International Relations Office, and Mr. Jihad Gündüz, Coordinator of Incoming Participants at Erasmus Plus Office.

During the visit, a cultural tour was organized to introduce the historical and archaeological landmarks of Diyarbakır city. Additionally, a tour was arranged to familiarize the delegates with the facilities and departments of Dicle University, along with meetings to explore avenues for academic and research cooperation. Discussions took place with the Deanship of the College of Health Sciences, the Deanship of the College of Sciences, as well as representatives from the Departments of Ophthalmology and Optics and the Department of Chemistry. Laboratory visits were conducted at both colleges.

Prof. Bassam Abu Thaher delivered a scientific lecture on the impact of Metabrazil on cancer. He also presented an introductory lecture about the Islamic University of Gaza, its scientific facilities, and notable international and research achievements. The delegation also visited laboratories specializing in general analysis, food analysis, petroleum and alcohol analysis, and other specialized biological analyses.

On the sidelines of the visit, Dr. Awad and Prof.  Abu Zaher met with the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Professor Dr. Haji Musa Bağcı, accompanied by Vice Dean Dr. Orhan Janbolat and several academics from the faculty. An agreement was reached to establish a memorandum of understanding between the Faculties of Sharia and Law, and the faculty of ossoul Eddin at the Islamic University of Gaza and Dicle University, aimed at enhancing collaboration between the two universities and fostering international student and staff exchanges.

It is worth noting that the Islamic University of Gaza has participated in several international credit mobility projects, establishing extensive partnerships with numerous universities across different European countries, such as Greece, Austria, Spain, Italy, Turkey, and others.
