From IUG to Autonomous University of Barcelona and Back

Prof. Dr. Bassam Tayeh, a professor in the Civil Engineering Department at the Islamic University, has completed an international exchange period at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Spain. That was part of the international exchange projects funded by the Erasmus Plus program and with an invitation from the Head of the Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering Department, Prof. Juan BAEZA.

The visitor organized a meeting to introduce the Islamic University, highlighting its centers, faculties, and scientific research awards. Afterward, he proceeded to discuss the subjects of collaborative research and conduction methods, taking the first step towards promoting international cooperation between the two universities.

Professor Tayeh took a tour during the visit to observe the department’s laboratories and identify the research topics that master’s and doctoral students are working on. Interestingly, the tour included exploring how the smart building at the host university functions.

Ms. Walaa Safi, the Coordinator of International Exchange Projects at the Islamic University, stressed that Erasmus Plus Program aims to enhance academic and cultural exchange between European universities and their partners in other countries. Such exchange enriches the knowledge and experience of students, academics, and staff and opens life-changing opportunities for them. “Taking part in exchange projects gives insights into the academic strategies and methodologies used in the host universities so that they can adopt the most efficient at IUG.”
