In a significant development for higher education in Palestine, the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) participated in the launch of a new plan by the Palestinian Council of Higher Education Experts.
The Council of Higher Education Experts, an offshoot of the national Erasmus office, held a meeting under the leadership of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Mahmoud Abu Mouis, to discuss the council’s action plan for the coming years and performance indicators.
The plan will focus on enhancing the international presence of Palestinian universities through projects, academic exchanges, research, and support for vocational and technical education.
The meeting was attended by members of the Council of Higher Education Experts and members of the teams supporting the work of the council. Prof. Hatem Al-Aidi, a faculty member in the Faculty of Engineering, and Eng. Amani Al-Maqadma, head of the External Relations Department, participated on behalf of the Islamic University of Gaza.

This council plan presented by Eng. Al-Maqadma was prepared with efforts from Dr. Abdel Karim Aldraghma, head of Erasmus Plus in Palestine, and Dr. Amir Khalil, head of Contracts and Grants Office at Birzeit University.
During the meeting, the council members and supporting teams discussed the various aspects of the plan and identified working committees from different members of the expert team and supporters to enhance the international presence of Palestinian universities. These activities will be implemented over the next two years, until the end of 2024.
The meeting also saw discussions on indicators prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research related to international activities in Palestinian universities.
This plan is expected to produce models and guidelines that will help enhance the participation of Palestinian universities in various European Commission programs and internationalize their outcomes.
This is undoubtedly a significant milestone for Palestinian higher education and demonstrates the dedication of the council, the ministry, and Palestinian universities to enhancing the quality of education and their international profile.
