The Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) has made great strides in the world rankings of universities, advancing an impressive 108 places in the first edition of the 2023 Webometrics ranking of world universities. This remarkable achievement has placed the university at number 70 among Arab universities, number 3 in Palestine, and the top-ranking university in the Gaza Strip.
Prof. Dr. Abdelraouf Elmanama, the Dean of Quality and Development at IUG, praised the university’s continuous efforts to follow up on international rankings. He emphasized that these efforts have been instrumental in the university’s progress in the world university rankings. Prof. Elmanama further stressed the importance of working on international rankings to provide the best educational services for students and the community, as well as to improve the academic and research level, in order to achieve continuous progress and promote the university’s name among global and Arab universities.
The “Webometrics” world ranking of universities is issued in Spain by the Higher Council for Scientific Research twice a year, in January and July. The ranking relies on three main criteria, including clarity (the impact of the website content), transparency/openness (the number of citations), and excellence/researcher (the number of research papers). It is worth noting that the IUG’s impressive advancement in the 2023 Webometrics ranking of world universities is a testament to the university’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and continuous progress.
