Islamic University of Gaza hosted the exclusive premiere of the Golden Award-winning documentary film at Monte Carlo International Television Festival entitled: “Erasmus in Gaza”, directed by Chiara Aviesani and Matteo Delbo’, which revolves around the experience of the Italian student Riccardo Corradini from the University of Siena in Italy during his study at the Faculty of Medicine of the Islamic University from February to May 2019, as part of the international exchange projects administrated by External Relations Department at the Islamic University.

The premiere of the film was attended by Ms. Meri Calvelli and Mr. Sami Abu Omar from the Italian Cultural Center, and from the Islamic University Prof. Dr. Ahmed Muhaisen, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Fadel Naim, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Dr. Mosheer Amer, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Hisham Madi, Vice Dean of External Relations, and a group of academics, students and interested people from inside and outside the university.

The film story revolves around the Erasmus Plus experience of the student Riccardo at the Islamic University starting from his selection of Gaza for the exchange program to his travel through Erez Crossing and the barriers he traversed to reach the Islamic University. The film depicts the suffering of the Gaza Strip’s people in light of the power cuts, the siege, and other agonies.
The film also manifests the hospitality of the university and the Faculty of Medicine in hosting the student Riccardo, his efforts in blending into university life, and his relation with his classmates, in addition to his practical experience in Gaza hospitals and his voluntary work with Palestinian medical staff in treating the injuries of Return-Right Demonstrations.

The film sheds light on the suffering of the Palestinians in light of wars, bombing and destruction of homes, in addition to the injuries of the demonstrators in Return-Right Demonstrations that included lower-limb injuries of children and adults. Furthermore, the film showcases how the siege have shaped the identity of the Gaza Strip, and how hope and time for joy have been present ever since despite the agony and siege.
The Islamic University has participated in about 50 international exchange projects with a total of 170 international exchange opportunities for students and staff.
