According to a report issued by U.S. News & World Report, Islamic University of Gaza IUG has received high status among the top Arab universities scoring the second rank among Palestinian Universities and in the list of first 120 best Arab universities. The assessment is based on 11 indicators to measure the performance of the university including academic reputation rank, cited publication, employer reputation rank, and field-weighted citation impact, among others.
University President Professor Adel Awadallah praised the constructive and diligent efforts made by the Islamic university staff which in turn contributed to achieving this prestigious rank. He also reaffirmed that the Islamic University has succeeded in transferring scientific research into daily practice not only in the academic fields, but also in community service and research output noting that the university won several scientific awards and strengthened its academic cooperation and partnerships with other universities locally and internationally.
The Islamic University of Gaza, established in 1978, includes 11 faculties and over 120 academic programmes, 22 research centres and academic units and 40 cooperation agreements with Arab and international universities. About 20,000 students are currently studying at the university and close to 63,000 graduated since its establishment.
