You are invited to apply for a Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship sponsored by the United States Department of State and administered by AMIDEAST for the 2016-2017 academic year. Interested persons may apply for a maximum of two years' funding for a Master's program.
The scholarship covers expenses incurred for travel to and from the United States, tuition, books, health insurance, and room and board. Funding is NOT available to meet expenses related to Fulbright grantees’ dependents (spouses or children).
The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) regulations state that candidates who wish to pursue studies as medical students are ineligible. Accordingly, this has been interpreted to include degrees for medical doctors, dentists, clinical nursing, and specializations in the medical and dental fields. Per the Fulbright regulations, doctors and nurses can pursue academic degrees, such as a Master’s of Public Health, and nurses can pursue degrees in Nursing Administration or Nursing Education
GUIDELINES FOR POTENTIAL PALESTINIAN FULBRIGHT FOREIGN STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS:
A. REQUIREMENTS:
- Fluency in spoken and written English as demonstrated by a minimum score of 78 IBT/547 PBT on the international Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Institutional Testing Program (ITP);
- GRE or GMAT test scores are not required with application; however, candidates who are provisionally selected for the Fulbright scholarship must take either the GRE or the GMAT, as appropriate, and obtain a satisfactory score before they can be placed with a university.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university;
- Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 78%, 2.7 or Very Good;
- Minimum 1 year work experience;
- Current legal resident of the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) or Gaza Strip; must be a resident at the time of the application and during the entire selection and placement process to be eligible;
- Eligibility for a J-1 visa;
- Green card holders or American citizens are not eligible;
- Completed applications must be submitted on-line and additional documentation delivered by hand by June 1st, 2015.
B. PROVISIONS:
- Incomplete applications will NOT be accepted under any circumstances.
- Preference shall be given to those applicants who have NOT studied in the United States previously.
- Preference shall be given to those applicants who do NOT already have a Master’s degree.
- Preference will be given to those who have not previously received a Fulbright Student program grant.
- ALL recipients of a Fulbright scholarship MUST return to their home country for at least two years upon the completion or termination of the scholarship. They will be ineligible for an immigrant visa to the United States at least until the two year home residency requirement has been met.
C. INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATION:

D. INSTRUCTIONS FOR ESSAYS:
Write a statement of purpose between 200 and 500 words in length concerning your previous academic work as it relates to your proposed field of study for the Fulbright scholarship. The statement should provide the scholarship review panel with insight as to your general past academic experiences, why you chose this particular field for graduate study, and how your study will impact your home community.
In addition to the statement of purpose essay, write an essay explaining your aspirations for your future career.
Do NOT copy from another person’s essay, book, newspaper internet, etc. (Plagiarism is a serious offense)
E. TEST REGISTRATION INFORMATION
In the West Bank, the TOEFL and GRE examinations are all administered via computer. For candidates in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, a testing site is located at the AMIDEAST/El-Bireh office. Eligibility
Eligible applicants must meet the following requirements:

The FY 2015 the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program
mid-August 2015 to mid-December 2015.

This Program brings approximately 20 international teachers to the U.S. for a semester-long program at a host U.S. university. The program will take place from mid-August 2015 to mid-December 2015.Teachers pursue individual inquiry projects, take courses for professional development at a host university or institute, and observe and lead master classes and seminars for teachers and students at local primary and secondary schools.
The Fulbright Teacher Exchange Branch provides funding and overall program coordination for this Program in consultation with the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB) and undera cooperative agreement with the Institute of International Education (IIE). It is fully funded by the Department of State in Washington DC.
Teachers will be placed ata U.S. university graduate school of education and will audit up to two classes, pursue an inquiry project, observe/team-teach/lead classes for U.S. teachers and students in local schools, and engage in other teaching related activities. The designs and proposals for the inquiry projects should be included in the application. Examples of projects for international teachers include current methodologies for teaching English asa Second Language, math, science, music or visual and performing arts; working with special needs students; promoting civic engagement or service learning; environmental education; school management or leadership; or development ofa curriculum component on other topics that meet a critical need in the candidate's home country.
The U.S. host university will be responsible for designinga specialized orientation and seminars for the teachers and will ensure that each group has access toa variety of professional development activities. A host university faculty advisor will be assigned to each teacher; that advisor will guide the participant in the refinement and implementation of her/his project
Eligibility and Application Requirements:
· Applicants cannot be U.S. citizens or Green Card holders; persons desiring or holding permanent residence in the United States are not eligible to apply
· Master’s degree or enrolled in a Master’s program
· Full time K-12 teaching position (Primary and secondary level), including classroom teachers, guidance counselors, curriculum coordinators, Special Education coordinator, media specialists/librarians and talented and gifted coordinators.
· Spend at least 50% of time interacting with students
· Five years of full time teaching experience
· Proven track record of professional development activities and leadership
· Primary and secondary school teachers who hold full-time teaching positions in any subject are eligible.
· Teacher trainers are also eligible to apply.
· For the purpose of determining eligibility, "full-time" refers to applicants who are currently employed full-time or who hold a combination of positions that add up to full time equivalency. All applicants must have completed at least five years of full-time teaching at the program start and the most competitive applicants will have shown evidence of leadership and have experience leading workshops or other professional development activities for their colleagues.
· Educational administrators (such as representatives or officials of the Ministry of Education) and school administrators who do not teach at least fifty percent of their time are not eligible or appropriate for this program, since the focus of the program is on issues in teaching rather than educational administration. Preference will be given to candidates who serve students in under-resourced communities.
· All candidates must have sufficient oral and written English language skills to audit university courses and to teach, lead seminars, and give presentations in U.S. schools.
· Acceptable documentation of English language proficiency is a TOEFL score of 550 on the paper and pencil test (computer based TOEFL of 213 or internet based TOEFL of 79) or an IELTS score of 6.5.

The School of Public Affairs at American University, under the auspices of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, is offering support for visiting social science scholars from Arab universities. The fellowships, beginning in September 2014, are geared to encourage innovative research on urban governance, urban development, local government, and social justice and the built environment in the Arab region.
Visiting scholars may spend three to six months in residence, during which they will be expected to conduct their own research and prepare their work for publication. Areas of inquiry include but are not limited to research that focuses on participatory governance, urban development, participatory urban planning, local government reform, public service provision, the political problems of mega-cities, asset-based approaches to urban development, urban mobilization, municipal elections, and public space in the Middle East and North Africa. Visiting scholars will also collaborate with Professor Diane Singerman on a project related to these themes.
In addition to developing and submitting their own research for publication, the scholars will be expected to:
- Present a final paper on a selected subject relevant to Urban Development and Local Governance.
- Collaborate with Professor Diane Singerman to research and produce selected policy briefs on urban governance issues for an ongoing project at American University.
- Present their own research at selected talks and seminars in Washington D.C. and engage with American University faculty
and students.
Eligibility Requirements
Visiting scholars must be a faculty member or advanced PhD student at a university in the Arab World in a social science
discipline focusing on the thematic research areas discussed above.Logistical Arrangements
- The fellowship will cover economy class round-trip air fare and will provide the visiting scholars with a monthly stipend to cover expenses (housing, required health insurance, etc.) while in residence in D.C. The stipend will depend on the fellow’s qualifications.
- The fellowship period will typically be three to six months, but under rare circumstances, may be as long as twelve months.
- American University will provide visiting scholars with a university ID, access to the university library, on line access, and a work space.
- Scholars will enter the U.S. with a J1 visa. They are responsible for contacting the U.S embassy and applying for the visa. AU will issue some of the documents required for obtaining the visa.
