Asfari-MAP Scholarship For Palestinian Medical and Health Professionals

Applications are invited from Palestinians for the 2015-16 Asfari-MAP Scholarship for a one-year taught postgraduate Master’s degree (MSc, MA etc.) in a medical or health related field at a UK university.

Scholarships will be given based on academic merit and financial need and will cover tuition fees up to £19,000 for a one-year taught masters and provide a monthly stipend for accommodation and living expenses.

This scholarship is open to candidates who meet the following criteria:

·         Palestinian healthcare professionals (including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, paramedics, counsellors/psychotherapists, dentists, midwives, dieticians, and others) currently working in public or NGO healthcare services for Palestinians;

·         Of Palestinian origin and currently living and working in either Palestine or Lebanon (including Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, and Palestinians from Syria currently living in Lebanon);

·         Under the age of 40 at time of application;

·         Strong academic record and good level of English;

·         Commitment to return to Palestine or Lebanon after graduation to use the skills, knowledge and experience gained during their time in the UK for the benefit of their community (successful candidates will be asked to sign an agreement with the Asfari Foundation & MAP which includes this commitment);

·         Priority will be given to those who have had fewer opportunities.

Application Procedure:

Interested and qualified candidates should first apply to a UK university for a health- or medical- related taught Master’s degree and obtain an unconditional offer (candidates may apply to more than one university if they wish). Students must also have met the English language requirements of the course. The scholarship only covers 12-month full time taught courses which require the presence of the student at the university (distance learning, part-time and research Master’s degrees are not eligible for this scholarship).

Please note that it can take some weeks for UK universities to assess applications for admission, so we strongly recommend candidates apply in plenty of time. 

They should then complete an application form (available to download fromhttp://www.asfarifoundation.org.uk/201516-asfari-map-scholarships/), which should be submitted by email to [email protected]  along with the valid unconditional offer letter from their chosen university and valid English language certificate (such as IELTS). Please include “Asfari-MAP Scholarship” and your name in the subject line.

The deadline for applications is 31 March 2015. Incomplete applications or applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

The scholarship covers tuition fees to a maximum of £19,000 and a monthly stipend to cover living costs (as set each academic year by the Association of Commonwealth Universities). Other costs such as travel to and from the UK and, in extreme circumstances, the course application fee may also be provided by MAP and the Asfari Foundation at its discretion.

University of Oslo is inviting applications for a PhD research fellowship in experimental particle physics at the Department of Physics. The successful candidate will work with data taken by the ATLAS experiment situated at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. If the successful candidate has a good knowledge of one Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish), the fellowship will be for a period of 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work. Otherwise, the fellowship will be for a period of 3 years, with no compulsory work. The application deadline is 1 May, 2015.

Eligibility:
-The research topic is interdisciplinary and the candidate is expected to acquire the required theoretical, computational and experimental skills to carry out interdisciplinary dark matter research during the research.
-Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in physics or engineering, with very good results. The applicant has to have a solid background in scientific programming, experience in data-analysis, use of advanced statistical tools and methods. Experience with working in a big research group or collaboration is an advantage.
-The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
-A good command of English is required of all students attending the University of Oslo.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Norwegian and Foreign applicants can apply for this PhD research fellowship.

Scholarship Description: Position as PhD Research fellow in Experimental Particle Physics is available at The Department of Physics, University of Oslo. If the successful candidate has a good knowledge of one Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish), the fellowship will be for a period of 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work (teaching responsibilities at The Department of Physics). Otherwise, the fellowship will be for a period of 3 years, with no compulsory work. Starting date as soon as possible, no later than 01.10.2015. The successful candidate will work with data taken by the ATLAS experiment situated at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. LHC is expected to restart proton-proton collisions and data-taking in April 2015 at high luminosity and energy. The present ATLAS analysis involvements of the Oslo group include Supersymmetry searches in final states containing leptons, searches for exotic particles such as new gauge bosons (W’, Z’) and gravitons, and Higgs boson searches and measurements. The group is heavily involved in distributed computing and the ATLAS detector upgrade, in particular in relation with the planned new tracking detector ITk. The research program is carried out within the HEPP project in close collaboration with the University of Bergen.

What does it cover? Position code 1017, Pay grade: 50 – 57 (NOK 429 700 – 482 800 per year).

Selection Criteria: The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and will be expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

How to Apply: Applications should be submitted online. The fellowship requires admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The application to the PhD programme must be submitted to the department no later than two months after taking up the position. The application must include:
