"IUG Won Project "Strengthen Higher Education Capacities for Gender Equalities"

The Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) has won a new Academic Partnership Project named " Strengthening Higher Education Capacities in Palestine for Gender Equalities" in partnership with University of Graz-Austria under Austrian Partnership Program in Higher Education and Research for Development (Appear).

A specialist team from IUG is going to implement the activity of this project, which includes Prof. Sanaa Abu Dagga, Assistant to Vice President for Research Affairs, Eng. Amani Al-Maqadma, Head of External Relations Department, Dr. Khetam Al-Sahar, Assistant Professor at Department of Psychology, and Dr. Manal Al-Ashi, Instructor at Sharia'a and Law Department.    

The project, which extends from July 2017 to June 2020, aims at enhancing IUG academic staff capabilities and higher education capacities for gender equalities. It also pursues raising awareness of women issues outside IUG through connecting and contacting with local higher education institutions, local NGOs, and woman-advocate institutions. Furthermore, its outcomes expand to include promoting interconnection and cultural exchange at regional and international levels.

The project Outcomes are:

1-      Improving the capabilities of academic staff in IUG by creating one-year interdisciplinary program in the field of woman studies, consisting of 16 credit hours.

2-      Developing curricula at IUG by (A) preparing MA program in woman studies and gender equalities, (B) building up a library special to women issues which includes references in Arabic and English languages, and (C) developing human rights course at IUG to include some issues relevant to woman’s rights.

3-       Enhancing research activities in woman issues. The academic staff at IUG and University of Graz are going to supervise such activities conducted by students from both universities.

4-      Establishing woman studies center for the purpose of setting up and managing any educational and research activities in the field of woman rights.

5-      Raising awareness of woman issues at higher education institutions through offering training courses and allowing staff of such institutions to enroll.

It is worth mentioning that IUG has won another academic partnership project entitled" Developing maker‐movement‐inspired training courses on renewable energy sources in the Gaza Strip ‐ Palestine | MakingFutureEnergy4Palestine" which is extended from February 2017 to 2020 and funded by Appear Program in cooperation with University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Austria and managed by Prof. Hala El-Khozondar from IUG Faculty of Engineering.

For the academic year 2016-2017, IUG has won (8) international projects which resulted in partnerships with (100) European Universities.
