IUG, the Sixth International Conference on Science and Development kicks off

The Sixth International Conference on Science and Development, organized by the Faculty of Science at the University and sponsored by the International Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) - Malaysia, kicks off at the Islamic University of Gaza )IUG). The conference will be held on 14 and 15 March.

The opening session of the conference was held in the big conference hall at IUG, in the presence of: IUG President Prof. Adel Awadallah, Dean of the Faculty of Science and the Head of the conference Prof. Nizam Al Ashqar, Vice dean of the Faculty of Science and Chairman of the Preparatory Committee Dr. Ziad Abu Hain, deputies from the Palestinian Legislative Council, a number of representatives of ministries and community institutions, and a gathering of faculty members and students in the Faculty of Science.

In his speech at the opening session, Prof. Awadallah praised the role of the Palestinian scientist in achieving outstanding researches despite the lack of the potential equipment. Also, he stressed that the Islamic University is a beacon of vibrancy. He added that its teachers are moving everywhere, gaining international grants and prizes. He pointed out that the reason behind all these activities and events are students and scientists, describing the College of Science as the leader in all fields.


On one hand, Prof. Al-Ashqar pointed out that the conference is launched to be the incubator for Palestinian scientists. Indeed, he praised the level of activities carried out by the Faculty of Science and noted their excellence in research production.According to Al- Ashqar, the number of researches submitted by the faculty during the last three years reached 270 refereed research.


One the other hand, Dr. Abu Hain explained that the University celebrated the International Conference on Science and Development in 2005, but what makes the sixth conference distinguished is the selection of refereed researches. He added that there are more than (200) scientists and researchers participating in this conference, who are well known for their scientific expertise. Through a voice tape, Professor Sultana Nahr, a research scientist at the Department of Astronomy at Ohio State University, displays the process of discovering new stars and planets through the spectrum of radiation and how the atomic processes of cosmic phenomena help in the treatment of cancer.


Sessions of the first day of the Conference

During the first day, the conference revolved around four main topics: Mathematics, Biology and Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Environment and Earth Sciences. For the first session in Mathematics, Prof. Jasser Sarsour, faculty member at Department of Mathematics, was the head while Prof. Atta Abu Hani chaired the second session in Mathematics and discussed four scientific refereed papers.

 

Biology and Biotechnology

Two sessions took place in the Conference Hall of Tiba building. The first one was chaired by Prof. Yousef Al-Jish, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing at IUG, and this session dealt with six scientific papers while the second session was chaired by Dr. Abdul Moneim Lubad, a member of the Faculty of Medicine. The session examined six scientific papers.


Physics

Two sessions took place in the Conference Hall of Al-Quds building. The first session was chaired by Prof. Mohammad Shabat, Professor of Physics at the Faculty of Science, and he discussed three scientific papers. However, the head for the second session was Prof. Nasser Farhat, a member of the Faculty of Science, who dealt with four refereed papers.

Chemistry

One session took place in the Conference Hall of Al-Lhaidan building. It was chaired by Dr. Issa Al-Nahhal, a member of the Faculty of Science. The session discussed four scientific refereed papers. 

Environment and Earth Sciences

Only one session was held in the Conference Hall of Al-Lhaidan building. It was chaired by Prof. Samir Afifi, a member of the Faculty of Science. Also, this session examined four scientific refereed papers.
